When planning your epic spearfishing trip around Australia, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. They include:

This is what Lauren Fisher, a seasoned spearfishing woman from Australia, said, “So I’ve got a very rough plan by rough plan. I started looking at stuff like last week to be like, okay, these are epic places that I should go. These are the species that are in the area.”

The Best Time of Year to Go

Australia is a huge country with a diverse climate. The best time to go spearfishing will depend on where you want to go and what kind of fish you’re hoping to catch.

For example, in Queensland, the water visibility is best during the winter months (June to August), when the water is cooler. However, summer can also be a good time to go, as more fish are often around.

What Gear You’ll Need

Again, this will vary depending on the location and type of fish you’re targeting. You may need wetsuits and snorkeling gear for temperate waters or full-length dive suits for colder areas.

Other essential gear might include goggles, fins, spearguns, and spearfishing knives.

A Well-Thought-Out Itinerary

Do your research to determine which locations would be most promising for your specific goals. Also, make sure to plan for travel and lodging along the way, any job that you can do, and budget for any extra equipment or supplies you might need.

According to Lauren Fisher, “I think I’ll work in certain places like being a school teacher. I can pick up some casual contracts here and there, and I think that’s probably a good way to meet people and suss out the local knowledge as well.”

The Right Mindset and Attitude

An epic spearfishing trip will be both challenging and rewarding, so it’s important to go into it with the right mindset.

Stay positive, keep an open mind, and don’t be afraid to push yourself outside your comfort zone to have the best possible experience. With careful planning, the right gear, and the right attitude, your epic spearfishing trip around Australia is sure to be a success!

The Support of Friends and Family

While you’ll certainly want to enjoy some time alone in nature on your epic spearfishing quest, it’s also important to have the support of loved ones back home.

So be sure to keep them updated on your progress and let them know that they’re part of this amazing adventure!

Lauren Fisher said, “Everyone’s open to giving you advice everyone’s open coming. And so I hope that is what happens. that someone wants to come and be a dive buddy around, or I just meet people, and they come and join the epic adventure.”

Friends and family are an important part of any epic spearfishing trip. And with all the excitement, wonder, and adventure that await you on this incredible journey, you’re sure to make memories that will last a lifetime.

“I hope that happens because I don’t want to dive alone. Like you just hear of all those horror stories, and I think just going in new areas, all the unknown, I know it’s going to make me a better Boaty person and spearfisherman and fisherman, but it’s super nerve-wracking going to these new areas,” Lauren Fisher said.

The Best Places to Go Spearfishing Around Australia

Now that you’ve planned your trip and packed your gear, it’s time to choose your destination. Australia is home to many different types of environments, so there’s sure to be a perfect spot for you, no matter your preference.

Here are just a few of the best places to go spearfishing around Australia:

Queensland

Queensland is home to the Great Barrier Reef. You can spearfish in different areas of Queensland and including the barrier reef, inside and outside the Great Barrier Reef.

With countless caves, tunnels, and hidden coves to explore, Queensland is a prime destination for epic spearfishing adventures.

Southern Australia

From the temperate waters of Adelaide to the rugged coastlines of Victoria, southern Australia offers a wealth of spearfishing opportunities.

Whether you’re after big game fish or smaller reef-dwelling species, there’s sure to be a perfect spot for you. Some of the popular sites in South Australia are Gulf Rock, Pt Noarlunga Reef, and Salmon Hole.

“Like South Australia, I’ve been watching some YouTubes, and its kingfish and look at the abalone, the squid, the king George Whiting, all these fish that I’ve never really speared, and so I want to do that,” Lauren Fisher said.

North-South Wales

Another top destination for spearfishing in Australia is the North-South Wales region. This area is known for its clear waters and abundant marine life.

Some of the best spots to go spearfishing include Kingscliffe, which is on the northern side of north-south Wales, Sydney, central NSW, and Southern NSW.

Some species found in NSW are Red Morwong, Kingfish, Luderick, Leatherjacket, Wahoo, Marlin, and others.

Victoria, Western Australia

When you are starting spearfishing, Victoria is a good place to start with. There are good schools of fish that makes it easy for beginners to catch spearfishing.

The species found include Crayfish, Whiting, Leatherjackets, Snapper, Squid, Australian Salmon, etc. Although the visibility may only be suitable for certain times of the year, it is still worth going to Victoria for a spearfishing adventure.

Lauren Fisher said, “The ultimate goal is to get into Western Australia, not the Northern part during the summer months because I’ve heard it’s ridiculously hot, but make my way up there by midyear, I’d say to Northern WA and try and do as much spearfishing and fishing as I can off there.”

Tasmania

You have to be able to adapt to the visibility of under 5m while spearfishing in Tasmania. However, if you can do this, it is a great place to spearfish and catch some big fish.

The common species in Tasmania include Fingermark, Mangrove, Huskies, Barramundi, Longnose

Emperors, big Black Jewfish, and many others. Other places worth checking out while in Australia for an epic spearfishing trip include Western Australia, the Northern Territory, and New Zealand.

Tips and Tricks for a Successful Epic Spearfishing Trip

Australia is the perfect destination for an epic spearfishing trip with its vast and pristine waters.

Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting, countless tips and tricks can help you navigate this beautiful country’s rugged coastlines and deep ocean trenches.

From choosing the right gear to staying safe in unpredictable conditions, here’s everything you need to know for a successful spearfishing adventure Down Under.

Choose the Right Gear for the Job

There’s no such thing as one-size-fits-all when it comes to spearfishing gear. Depending on the type of fish you’re after and the conditions you’ll be fishing in, you’ll need to select the right spear, wetsuit, fins, and mask.

Do your research before setting out on your trip, and be sure to consult with a local expert to get the best advice on the area you’ll be fishing in.

Stay Safe in the Water

Spearfishing can be a dangerous sport if you’re not careful. Always swim with a buddy, and keep an eye on the weather and ocean conditions before heading out.

Additionally, be sure to take all necessary safety precautions when using spearguns, such as wearing spearfishing gloves, using appropriate harnesses or float lines, and avoiding handling fish outside of your depth.

Be Prepared for Anything

The Australian coast is known for its rugged beauty, but it can also be dangerous if you’re not prepared. Always bring along a first-aid kit, a knife, and a flare gun, and make sure you know how to use them in case of an emergency.

Additionally, it’s always good to let someone know where you’re going and when you plan to return.

Lauren Fisher said, “I do want a big Marlin like I would love, but I also am very aware. I need to be set up for that, which I’m not at the moment. But maybe once I’m in an area where they are known to be, I will make sure I’m set up for that.”

Respect the Environment

As beautiful as the Australian coastlines are, they’re also fragile ecosystems that need to be respected. When spearfishing, always practice catch and release and be careful not to damage the coral reefs or other marine life.

Additionally, dispose of any waste or trash properly, and leave no trace as you make your way around the country.

Have Fun

Spearfishing is all about having fun. So, relax, take your time, and enjoy the experience. Whether you catch a fish or not, you’re sure to create some amazing memories that will last a lifetime.

Conclusion

As you can see, spearfishing around the entire coast of Australia is an epic adventure that all spearfishers should experience at least once in their lives.

Whether you’re looking for challenging conditions and big fish or beautiful tropical waters and colorful reefs teeming with life, there’s something here for every spearfisher.
