How to Bowfish

Bowfishing is essentially similar to archery, with only a few more challenges. In fishing with a bow, you want to make sure you target the thickest part of the fish without aiming directly at the fish so your arrow will anchor properly.
The water distorts your visibility with light refraction, so the depth of the fish determines your aim. Keep in mind to aim at least three inches lower each foot depth. Practicing downward shooting will improve accuracy as, more often than not, you’ll shoot down at fish.
Bending at the hips will help you maintain good form when practicing. When bowfishing, you want to rely more on your instincts and shoot at your target quickly without using sights.
Regulations
Always check your local regulations before bowhunting.
California Fish and Wildlife restricts bowfishing to other fish species except for carp. You must have an arrow shaft, point, or both when bowfishing the SoCal water. Ensure a line secures them to the bow or fishing reel, including crossbows.
